What’s your sign?” I asked my friend believing that the odds are good that he’ll know the answer. Or would he? He was quick to respond –“I don’t believe in astrology. I’m an Aquarian but my characteristics are nowhere close to any of the ones mentioned in the tons of columns in newspapers and magazines describing the characteristics about Aquarians. It’s all a myth and nothing else.”
Being an astrologer, I quickly realised that I’d asked him the wrong question or may be an incomplete one. I understood that Aquarius is his Sun sign and not his Moon sign which I intended to know. Almost everybody would know their Sun sign and have been following those astrology columns based on their sun signs which is just one piece of the astrological puzzle (and it is not the most significant one) that determines who you are ? And it is therefore a good reason why most people don’t seem to fit the descriptive characteristics of their astrological sign that they are aware of, their Sun sign.
In simple terms, your Sun sign is the sign of the zodiac in which the Sun was at the time of your birth and your Moon sign is the sign where your moon was. As per Vedic astrology, your Moon sign is considered as the most important tenet of your astrological chart which defines everything about you and how your life would be governed. Knowing what sign the Moon was in at the time of your birth will provide you with a critical piece of your own astrological puzzle. Likewise, knowing someone else’s Moon sign will provide you with invaluable insight into the individual’s character.
So Why Does Your Moon Sign Matter?
The basic premise behind astrology is that the positioning of the planets in our solar system at the exact time of your birth would have an influence on you and would govern your life throughout. These planets include, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu (North Node) and Ketu (South Node). Each of these planets was located in a unique position in the sky at the time of your birth. If your moon sign is Aries, for instance, it means that the Moon was in the constellation of Aries at the time of your birth. Likewise for the Sun and all other planets.
How Important Is Your Moon Sign?
Most of the astrologers unequivocally advocate that your moon sign plays a significant role in deciding everything about your life and future. The Moon sign provides critical clues into who you are, what you look like, your preferences and your mental framework. However, it is important to note that you should not form an opinion about yourself or others only based on the moon sign. One of the most important aspectS about the placement of the moon in a particular constellation of a zodiac sign is that it defines the entire period and sequence of all the events which you shall encounter throughout your life. This period or cycle of 120 years (assuming you would live for 120 years as the ancient sages did) is known as the Vimshottari Dasha system and is by far the most accurate set of calculations which can give an indication about your life up to the precision of every single hour or even minutes. Also, the first alphabet of a new-born child’s name is also decided as per the placement of the moon in his/her chart. Thus, it should probably be clear by now as to how important your Moon sign is?
Moon: The Imprint of your Subconscious Mind
Ancient texts suggest that the placement of the Moon in your astrological chart represents your sub-conscious self or in simple terms, your mind. The moon is the fastest moving planet in the solar system and it can be compared with our mind which is also probably moving faster than anything else in the universe. The good part about this pace is that your unwanted reactions and situations will also change quickly with the movement of the moon. Your Moon sign will give you clues about your deepest beliefs and fears, your spirits and your emotional base. Whenever you feel something on an intuitive level ,it is your Moon sign reacting. Your true emotions are often found in your Moon sign, not your Sun sign. Although your Sun sign is very much a part of who you are, your deepest, darkest secrets can only be found in your Moon sign.
The Moon sign and Compatibility
Your Moon sign is tremendously important to understand your compatibility with anyone.because the Moon sign shows you how we feel on a purely emotional, intuitive level, and how you relate to others. The Moon also governs your habits and your notions of security and comfort, so it’s incredibly important for understanding your astrological compatibility with anyone using the Moon sign which often has much more to tell you than you realise. If your compatibility does’nt seem to match up with anyone, it is probably the Moon sign at work in your psyche.
How Your Moon Sign Gets Along with Your Sun Sign
Your Moon sign can exaggerate your Sun sign characteristics, create conflict with your Sun sign, or balance out strong Sun sign characteristics. Just to illustrate, assume your Sun sign is Leo. As a fire sign, Leo is a very outgoing, artistic, risk-taking, and sometimes volatile. Paired with a fire sign, the Moon which is a watery sign will anyways create conflicts. The Moon representing your emotions will exaggerate these characteristics and either you would become highly volatile or start taking undue risks in life. Thus,
